When we get a call from a company asking if we can help them promote an award they have won, our brains start to whirr, trying to think of a media hook. These days, awards are ubiquitous and, on their own, not usually enough to secure coverage. Our clients at Luminous however, had some pretty spectacular stunts up their sleeves that we knew would prick up the ears of our media contacts.
These weren’t gratuitous stunts either, as a world-renowned special effects company, they were at the heart of what they do. From flame throwers to customisable digital rain (it’s a thing), this small but mighty creative powerhouse designs and produces special effects that light up global stages for some of the most famous productions and artists in the world, from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, to the Olympics. All from right here in Exeter.
Naturally, we bit their hand off for the chance to work with them on the promotion of their thoroughly deserved King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.
After immersing ourselves in the world of special effects engineering, we created tailored press releases for trade and regional media, set up a photoshoot and made some calls to some of our favourite media contacts. We secured coverage across BBC and ITV broadcast (radio and TV respectively) as well as a raft of print and digital coverage across consumer and trade publications.
The team at Luminous were a joy to work with and we loved spending the morning with them as they were presented with their award while we juggled TV coordination and photography.
Another example of when our work really doesn’t feel like work. Lucky us.
